What's a Wassail Party?

In creating our new holiday fragrance, we've researched the origins of Wassail, and found the tradition began as a celebration, a party! And who doesn't love parties?

It began as a holiday gathering to express the wish that hosts and guests alike should have a healthy, hearty life.  This expression was sealed with a drink of Wassail, a heady, spice-filled drink believed to promote health and vitality:  hence the toast.

Here's how to have your own Wassail Party at home.

1. Include a brief history of Wassail with the invitation, and a reminder how important your guest's presence would be to you.

2. Set a particular time during the party for the official "Wassail Toast", make sure to let your guests know the time.

3. Remember this is no ordinary party-but a chance to create a "warm fuzzy" for your friends and family as you toast to their health and vitality.

Here's a Wassail Recipe you can use:

1 gallon apple juice, 1 quart orange juice (thawed), 2 cups lemon juice, 1 cup sugar, 2 cinnamon sticks, 2 teaspoons cloves.

Place all ingredients in a non-aluminum pan. (A large, stainless steel pot or dutch oven works well). Stir liquid frequently and heat to boiling. Reduce heat and simmer for one hour before serving. Refrigerate any remaining drink. Makes 24 servings.
